Founded in 1987 as River Road Productions, the Company sought to produce independent feature films from its Midwest base. In 1990, the Company produced its first feature, OLD EXPLORERS, starring Jose Ferrer and James Whitmore. The film was released theatrically by Taurus Entertainment, on home video by Academy Entertainment, and on cable through Showtime.
Throughout the 1990’s, River Road focused on commercial and documentary film production with an emphasis on arts, culture and music-related programming. It’s slate of production credits included documentaries on such diverse notables as the rock star Prince, baseball great Kirby Puckett, and Irish theater director Joe Dowling; broadcast specials with the Fugees, the Beijing Opera and Bobby McFerrin; and music videos for Run DMC, Wyclef Jean, and Alexander O’Neal. The Company also partnered with Musicland/Sam Goody, the largest music retailer in the United States, to develop and produce music-related programming for cable and syndicated television.
In 1998, River Road began producing a seven channel network of in-flight entertainment programming for Northwest Airlines, and in 2000 it won the industry’s highest award for in-flight programming. |
